Bites with Bloody Mary Sauce

Bites with Bloody Mary Sauce
Does the name does conjure up something a lil ghoulish or a substitute for a drink? Well if you said something ghoulish, but in a good way, you are right. I have been wanting to make this sauce for a while now and it seemed like a good fit since we were planning to watch the series finale of Dexter. For those of you who don't know about Dexter (obvi where have you been?) here in a nutshell - A Miami police forensics expert moonlights as a serial killer of criminals who he believes have escaped justice. OK  so you may love or hate it, but a lil blood on this night is a good tie in.

Ingredients:
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/2 c. vodka
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp hot pepper sauce
1 c. tomato sauce
1 rounded tbsp prepared horseradish
coarse salt and pepper
1/2 lb sirloin cut into large bite-sized pieces
1/2 lb large shrimp

Heat in a small saucepan over med heat. Add oil, onions and saute for 5 min. Add vodka and reduce by 1/2. Add Worcestershire and hot sauce, tomato sauce and horseradish. Stir to combine the dipping sauce and return the sauce to a bubble. Add salt and pepper and adjust to your liking. Let cool a few min then put into serving bowl.
Heat nonstick skillet over high heat with tbsp olive oil. Season steak with salt and pepper. Cook the meat until caramelized all over, 2 min each side, remove from skillet. Add shrimp and cook for just a couple min total, until just pink. And lastly add chicken and cook 4/5 min each side.
Serve on a platter with dipping sauce bowl in the center.
Enjoy with a justified serial killer or not!
Maybe ripe for a Halloween type appy too.
