Celebrate Mom!

My beautiful Mom!
It's time celebrate Mom. What better way then through special food and times together.
Now that I am a Mom too I try to make Mother's Day for my Mom a separate holiday from mine. This year is no different, especially since we have much to celebrate with her. My Mom just had (post 3 weeks) a hip replacement surgery. She is getting around well with the walker even with steps and with virtually no pain. AMAZING! I cannot tell you how happy she is these days. Just singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow brought her to tears, tears of definite joy these days.

tasty treat
One afternoon while I was over checking in on her and so what all she needed she was watching one of her fav cooking shows. She dropped a major hint after seeing the menu...and for those of you who know my Mom know she is so good at that. So I knew what I wanted to do, cook up these items for a special dinner for her.
First here is the dessert, since that is what peaked her interest on the show first- Pomegranate Cherry Sherbet. She even shared her dessert with the boys. Everyone was happy as we watched Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays . Side note, if you haven't seen this yet, available on HBO now, you must watch. The part on speaking Yiddish (and needing slip covered furniture) is some classic stuff!

The main meal, as my son likes to say, were the calzones. Which were supper easy to make. I made mini ones so that I could pack the left overs in my son's lunch. Make sure to roll out your dough very thin otherwise they come out a bit doughy.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mother's out there!
