Well some folks think February 14th is a Hallmark holiday. I think its a day to remember those that we love and we can show it big and small ways. Its especially fun now to see how my son learns about the holiday and has sparked me to enjoy it differently too. Yes, of course we grow up and our tastes change, maybe we don't need a cute card with a pencil or tattoo to brighten our day. Maybe no gift is needed or maybe a special date night is the perfect way to remember how much you love someone.
With a lil one there is no shortage of ways to be crafty and creative with ways to celebrate - making homemade cards to give, making special decorations or even learning a Valentine's Day song - yup my son came home singing one of those. We made a loving tree last year and again this year. We cut out 14 hearts and my son wrote out what he loved on each heart & then hung it on the tree. Yes, this manzita branch gets some use from Thanksgiving (the thankful tree), to Christmas and now Valentine's Day.
We celebrated early with my Mom with flowers, candy and a special dinner out at a place she has wanted to try but hadn't had a chance. She loved it all!
I have a few gifts ready to go for the hubby and son. For our son we got him a few books - his favorites- the next in the Magic Tree House series and one for me to cry & read to him "If I Could Keep You Little" (love these).
And although I am not one that needs a box of chocolates these lil heart shaped jelly beans are fun to give this time of year.
And I can't wait to see all the loot my son comes home with after his party at school complete with pizza and cards and surprises from 40 other friends. Now that's some kind of love.
Our Valentine's Day will be spent skiing and hanging out with our friends. More stories to share about that for the next blog.
So however you celebrate the holiday I hope its a good one!
