How do you celebrate the holidays? We are very lucky as we celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas. I am Jewish and my husband is Baptist. So our son is learning about Jewish traditions while being raised as a Christian. You may say that must be challenging, but we really do embrace it and help our son to understand the importance of it all. For the holidays it is important to understand the importance of the holidays, the true meaning. And of course there are lots of fun ways to celebrate and get into the holiday spirit as well.
We of course love to decorate the house with items that signify the holidays. Our son of course knows that bringing out the dreidel collection means its time to play and see how much he can win, in gelt that is. In addition, we have an advent calendar that has a lil door for each day of the month. Inside that door is something to do that day. Anything from 'find a snowflake' to 'make a gingerbread house' may be found and to hear that it is the very first thing he goes to check on in the morning is such a special thing. And one last fun tradition we began since our son's 1st birthday is the Elf on the shelf. As soon as the Christmas tree goes up our son knows he knows the next morning and each one up to Christmas his Elf, Lucky is somewhere in the house (another search for that each day) watching him and his behavior.
In honor of our holidays and all the joy of discovering new things in the morning this month, on a recent morning I made some festive pancakes. 2 c. Trader Joes multi grain baking mix
1 c. almond milk
2 eggs
2 tbsp apple suce
Mix up and spoon out in pan cook until lightly golden on both sides.
I added some fresh cranberries and of course using the holiday molds for Hanukkah and Christmas made our son's morning (not to mention being served on a Star Wars plate, yes still left over from last month bday).
Another easy way to use up your old bananas in some good ol pancakes.
2 ripe bananas
2 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon
Mix up and spoon out and cook in a pan until golden. They are super moist and so easy and tasty to make for the kids.
Enjoy!
