Sauce it up!

When the weather outside is frightful what do you like to do? Well not that it ever gets so frightful here in L.A. but it has been SO cold. Since we were on winter break lots of movies, roaring fires with hot cocoa, projects from Tinker Crate and Vex Robotics, running around Disney and of course some "warm you up" food too.
This meat sauce is simple and a healthy update on my Momma's (Pulsinelli) original family recipe:
1 lb ground chicken
24 oz crushed tomatoes
1 onion, chopped
1 large and small can tomato puree
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/4 c. red wine
1/2 tsp rosemary chopped
1/2 tsp thyme chopped
little salt and pepper
1 tsp anise seed
1 tbsp olive oil
Put olive oil in large saucepan, get warmed
Brown the meat with chopped onion
Add anise, let it get toasted
Add all remaining ingredients
Bring to a boil then simmer for 40 min. I love to serve it over spaghetti squash with chopped artichoke hearts.
Enjoy!
