Easy applesauce

I love holiday traditions such as celebrating Hanukkah with our family, lighting the menorah and of course eating latkes (potato pancakes) with applesauce. When i have time I much prefer a homemade applesauce for a special occasion and this one is so easy it's a no brainer.  This is a set it and forget it type recipe which fit perfect with the busy weekend we had. The result, a big hit come the 1st night of Hanukkah. It would also make a great hostess gift if going to a friend's house to celebrate just put into a little Mason jar and tie two cinnamon sticks on top of lid.
Ingredients
3 lbs your favorite apples (I used fuji, honey crisp and gala) - peeled or not peeled
1/4 cup water
teaspoon ground cinnamon+ 2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 teaspoon allspice
Pinch of sea salt
juice from half a lemon
1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)

If you like a smooth applesauce then peel and core the apples, first. Then chop the apples into a large dice. If you like a chunky applesauce then leave peels on and core.
Place the apples, water, cinnamon, allspice, salt, lemon juice and brown sugar into the slow cooker. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 7-8 hours. I like to check inbtge last hour the softnesssof the applea and start ti mash with a potato masher or ricer. You can also  use an immersion blender to your desired consistency. Serve warm, room temperate or cold. The flavors will change slightly as it cools, so adjust to taste as needed.
What do you make for Hanukkah dinner?
How will you be celebrating this year?
Enjoy!
